American Boyfriend: Bodies of Water

Venue: Kyoto City University of Arts, Art Gallery, Horikawa Danchi
Dates: June 14th(Sat)-July 27th(Sun)
“Bodies of Water” exhibition took place during the rainy season in Kyoto, in two venues alongside Horikawa River: at @KCUA, Art Gallery of Kyoto City University of Arts and at Horikawa Danchi, a renovated gallery space within one of the oldest Housing Complex in Japan. The exhibition included new video piece “River,” “The Ocean View Resort,” a video piece previously exhibited in December 2013 in Tokyo, alongside other sculptural, photographic and embroidery pieces.
To accompany the exhibition, Japanese art magazine Bijutsu Techo (BT) published my 16-page text piece “Bodies of Water” on their July issue. The piece functioned as a guide for the Kyoto exhibition; and it included Japanese translation of “1990: L.A., The Gold Field” by Felix Gonzalez-Torres, which he wrote in response to seeing Roni Horn’s “Gold Field” At LA MoCA in 1990.
